Case Study-Juke Boxes Designed from aluminum extrusion the body and door sides are connected into a frame originally by cleats in the corners, latterly by welding for extra strength. The slots down the sides were able to take differing coloured strips to compliment the colour of the box. For internal fixing of the key pad and page unit a clever profile was designed that enabled a tapped cleat to be inserted after the box was constructed. The key pad included a button to operate the revolutionary rotating display, which would rotate 120 deg to show a new set of 20 CD name cards, there being 60 in all. The card holders, manufactured from uPVC extrusion, had moulded end caps to provide support and location for the drive gears. The 5 'pages' were driven simultaneously by a gear train operated by a small motor. The whole 'pages unit' is covered by a vacuum formed back which masks the view of the electronics and cash handling within the box. Money is inserted via a Mars Electronics coin mechanism into the large capacity cash box constructed of sheet steel. Lighting is provided by a 15watt fluorescent bulb mounted on the top bracket of the page assembly. This whole assembly can be swung out of the way, or even removed via lift off hinges, for cash collection/maintenance. The Juke box is mounted on the wall via a substantial wall bracket. The box is capable of communication with many popular vinyl/CD juke boxes like Rowe-Ami, NSM, Wurlitzer and Sound Leisure. Other versions of this box were later designed, still using the tried and tested rotating page display, but in a wood effect to compliment the growing trend in UK pubs for olde worlde charm. A bar top version, Tango, was added to the range, this self contained juke box allowed the operator to use the CD cases of the discs that were in the player, up to 12 discs, to display the content. For sound, the unit had a bank of speakers mounted in the top grille. An integral cash box and easy to use key pad complimented the package. |
